With this kind of budget with more than 70-80% recurrent expenditure across top 20 top ministries, how is any tangible infrastructural development supposed to take place. The Government is too big, to inefficient. Government should transfer the provision of Jobs to the private sector and focus on more important infrastructural development and security of lies and properties..

    • Adekunle Adebayo

Actually if you read the graph at all you would see that only about 40% of the budget is recurrent expenditure and about 25% is capital expenditure. But I do agree that our government need to focus on infrastructural development, but what do you expect when almost half the money from the budget is from loans which had to be gotten because of the massive deficit that was created by the mismanagement and misappropriation of funds by the previous government. The truth is recurrent expenditure have to be paid yet we can’t borrow too much to add to the capital expenditure or the government creates will end up drowning in debt. I’m actually quite impressed by this budget, cuz there is an increase across board in capital expenditure expecially in power which we all agree is a very important ministry, yet there is no significant increase in the overall budget. This is probably due to the weeding out of fake expenses such as ghost worker and fake projects. It is a step in the right direction, I just hope the ministers don’t squander it like in the last government cuz money is only useful if used right

BEHOLD, RECURRENT EXPENDITURE NEEDS TO BE REDUCED GRADUALLY AND NOT SHARPLY. OTHERWISE THERE WONT BE COUSIN EFFECT ON OTHER PROJECTS. LETS WAIT AND SEE NEXT YEAR’S BUDGET.

The recurrent expenditure needs to be reduced. Head of government agencies should find ways of generating revenue. My do we keep pumping money into agencies that can’t generate substantial revenue or minimal profit to be self sufficient.

How do you fight corruption effectively with the Ministry of Justice at N18.3billion in a budget of 6trillion? A paltry 0.3%. How do you expect the machinery to work? Even the Ministry of Sport sits at N75billion!

  • LagLon

budgIT – are the fed govt bailouts of the states budgeted?
else where does that money come from?

  • Femi

How do we expect any gains in healthcare and education when 90% of their respective budgets are recurrent expenditure?
